Frich Reveals: Party Etiquette

Aleksandra Medina

The festive season is properly over & while we find ourselves deep into post-party blues, it's somehow also a bit of a relief? While celebrations can be really fun, without properly preparing for them, we can find ourselves not only hungover but also financially hungover.

So, as we slowly start recovering from months of non-stop parties, gift exchanges, themed dinners and matching outfits, let's catch up on the unspoken rules of party etiquette as believed by Frichies.

We try not to pass on any judgement but this one surprised us a little bit. 52% of Frichies believe that it's ok for a host to Venmo request for food or drinks after they've hosted a party.

Look, we get it. Hosting can get a bit expensive, but here's what we believe is best etiquette when managing costs with your friends:

  • if you can't afford to pay for everyone's food or drink expenses, organize a potluck or specify that it's a BYOB dinner

  • if you still want to cook something for everyone & share the cost, communicate with your friends about your plans and the expected cost upfront

It's not optimal to just assume that people will cover the cost of the dinner you choose to make. Check out what people said on our socials!

Here's the breakdown: 44% said no because hosting is expensive, 28% said yes if they bring their own food & drinks (questionable, in our opinion), 28% believe that bringing max one person is ok.

Our opinion? Be respectful and ask. Hosting is time consuming and expensive, you should text your friend before bringing more people with you (unless the invite specifically mentioned that you should bring as many people as you want!)

Yikes... it's happened to us all. But how do you react? Almost a third (!!!!!!!!) answered that you'd ignore it and pretend that you don't know anything happened. The rest of you are split between insisting on covering the cost vs offering to pay but hoping you won't have to.
